Chiddingfold Ramble 7th September 2026

We met at 10.00 on The Green at Chiddingfold, GU8 4TU

To our surprise parking was rather easier than anticipated. There were twenty-one of us on the ramble which made the start somewhat difficult – crossing the rather busy Pickhurst Road to the relatively quiet Pockford Road.

First stop was the old post office to wonder at the solar-powered post box which can give one a receipt for items posted! 

We crossed the road to Pound Cottage but the ancient building was of
less interest than the marvels of modern post dispatch!

This was a varied ramble across farmland, through woodland, along streams and over bridges, sometimes along purpose-built paths, a small amount on quiet roads, but mainly on smaller tracks. It was mostly flat but with a couple of short slightly steeper parts. There were two stiles to navigate, plenty of kissing gates and a few trees down to negotiate. After all the dry weatherthe ground was uneven in parts with some awkwardly sloping ground.

Lunch was taken at the nearby Winterton Arms on the edge of the village, postcode GU8 4UU.
The walk was led by RD, very ably assisted by SK as back-marker.
