6th October 2025 Sheapleas & Horsley
Monday 6 October 2025 – Walk through Sheapleas and the Horsleys – 5 ½ miles
Led by Mary
10 walkers met at Sheapleas Shere Road Car Park (KT24 6EP). Storm Amy having crossed the country over the weekend we were very fortunate to have a lovely calm and sunny day to walk. The first part of the route took us on some of the many winding and flinty paths criss-crossing Sheepleas and through peaceful stretches of woodland. The terraine was undulating but not too steep. Along the way we passed three intact Lovelace bridges – Raven Arch, Dorking Arch and Stony Dene – and took our break on the fallen Pine Grove bridge. Emerging from the trees we crossed the A246 and walked down a quiet road and then a track into more woodland, following the old flint wall of Effingham Lodge on our left. Passing a tennis club we entered a private road that led to the main road through East Horsley and on to the Duke of Wellington PH. Three walkers chose to end their walk here and enjoy the sunshine. The remainder continued, crossing the A246 a little beyond the pub and re-entering the Sheepleas area again. Walking gradually uphill through woodland and across a steeper stretch of grassy meadow we returned to the car park. Six walkers stayed to lunch at the pub and we were joined by Pam and Steve.
