Broadwater lake and Wey Navigation. 8.9.2025.

Led by Ian, back-marker by Margaret.

12 of us set off from the car park in Nursery road and headed towards the lake
at Broadwater. Beautiful sunshine, blue sky and warmth. We walked the
northern shore (clockwise) spotting various wildlife and saw a variety of
different trees and shrubs. Safely crossing the main road the route took us
down a narrow path through the woods before reaching the Wey Navigation
and the junction with the river at the Weir.

Turning south towards Godalming we
ambled along the tow path looking at all sorts of flora and fauna the names of
which just escape me for a moment. The back garden of ‘The Ragged Robin’
was visible if we peeped over the fence. Crossing the track which goes to
Unstead wood The walk carried on along the towpath till we crossed into
Lammas land, over Catteshall road and walked alongside Hell’s ditch.

Our walkers who live locally had other names for this stinky, clogged stream. Our
coffee stop was behind the church on Bridge street. After the stop we found our
way to the Towpath at Sainsbury’s and retraced our steps back to the lake and
the car park. 10 of us stayed for lunch at the Ragged Robin. Good food and
good service. We can recommend it.
