3rd February - Shere and Little London

February 3 rd 2025 Shere and Little London.

The rain had unexpectedly kept away for several days which left the ground underfoot fairly good in most places for walking. The weather was very pleasant.

Anne S arranged and led the walk with Ian trailing behind back marking. 13 of us assembled and the walk started from the ‘The William Bray’ and soon we diverted to look at St James Church. Onward walking beside the Tillingbourne River and past ‘The Holiday’ bridge. {ask Anne} We all crossed the river safely, a short stroll up a steep slope and reached an open area.

The path took us along the meadow towards another unnamed church that we’ve seen on previous occasions. Walking close to the main road we arrived at Park Lodge. You’ll remember that as the entry has the cattle grid. A steady walk in the park on tarmac tracks heading for our coffee stop at the Peter and Paul Church. The next stage took us up the well known steep incline on chalky but dry surface where we all needed to take care. We had splendid scenery as we walked through the tree lined track to reach Park road and Little London.

Further on we reached the bridge over the railway. This was the furthest south, from now on we were homeward bound going north. Single width path, a bit gloopy underfoot, took us through the woods before reaching civilisation in the Pathfield group of houses, Shere lane, and we could see’ The William Bray’. The Landlady had allowed us to park our cars there providing we signed the right forms. If not £100 fine.

10 of us stayed for lunch. Lovely food and service.

Remember this next time we’re in Shere.
